Going All Out for Kids with Boys & Girls Clubs of America

We’re teaming up with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to bring the life-changing benefits of outdoor recreation to kids in select cities – and to set the framework that will help 4,700 Clubs around the country do the same.

Setting kids up for success through outdoor fun.

Drawing from over 260 years of collective expertise, L.L.Bean and Boys & Girls Clubs of America are working together to break through the socioeconomic, geographic, and environmental barriers that prevent young people from interacting with the natural world around them.

Research has shown that children today spend less time outdoors than any other generation – only four to seven minutes a day. We’re hoping to change that by helping develop a new Sports and Recreation curriculum focused on “Social Recreation” – giving kids unique opportunities for hands-on outdoor learning that will build confidence, promote creativity and imagination, and teach responsibility. It’s just a cherry on top of the already incredible developmental benefits Boys & Girls Clubs bring to the lives of the kids they serve.

Giving over 4 million kids new ways to play.

With each partner bringing its unique perspective to the table, we’re coming together to develop an Outdoor Recreation Playbook. This comprehensive guide will empower every Boys & Girls Club around the country to make the outdoors part of their winning formula for the healthy, positive development of the youth they support – over 4.6 million strong.

And we’re not stopping there. As part of our commitment, we’re also bringing expert instructors from L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Programs directly to Boys & Girls Clubs in select cities. By introducing outdoor sports and team-building activities to Club programming, we’re helping young people gain access to new nature-focused recreational opportunities – supporting their physical and emotional wellness, creating lasting bonds with the environment, and simply giving them a chance to have fun outside with their peers.

We’re thrilled for this opportunity to help Boys & Girls Clubs of America guide kids across the country on a path to success, giving them even more opportunities to reach their full potential – and walk out the door as productive, caring, responsible adults.

As CDC guidelines continue to shift, Club members are highly encouraged to wear masks where advised to protect themselves and others.
